A digital tachograph is a recording device, about the size of a regular car radio, that is installed in a heavy goods vehicle and monitors a range of important information.<\/p>\n

The device was invented in Germany in 1920 but became mandatory somewhat later (in 1952 in Germany and around 1970 in other European countries).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

Since 2007, a digital tachograph must be installed in all vehicles at first registration. In addition, under European Union law, not only vehicles over 7.5 tons must be equipped with a digital tachograph, but also light vehicles over 2.5 tons.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n
