Automatic Hungarian vignette payment
On July 1, 2013, Hungary introduced an electronic distance-based road toll system that covers no less than 6,500 km of the Hungarian road network, made up of the following road categories: motorways, expressways and main roads.
How does automatic vignette payment work in Hungary?
- First, a contract is signed between your company and CargoTrack;
- Once the devices are installed and verified to be working correctly, the vehicle registration process in the HU-GO system begins;
- A virtual account is created, where we register all your vehicle details;
- You are responsible for topping up the virtual account with enough money to cover transit for all vehicles;
- After registration, you will be notified by e-mail and SMS that your vehicle has been activated in the HU-GO system;
- Once you receive confirmation, you can start driving through Hungary without any issues, with road tolls paid automatically;
- In your HU-GO account you can also view in real time the tolls paid and your balance;
To make sure your trips run smoothly, our dispatchers CargoTrack constantly monitor your account status and will notify you by e-mail and SMS when your balance drops below the amount you set, so you never get any unpleasant surprises.
Why choose CargoTrack for road toll payments in Hungary?
The benefits of purchasing CargoTrack’s automatic HU-GO road toll payment services are:
- Route registration and automatic road toll payment – once entered, vehicle data stays saved and is automatically sent to the Hungarian authorities, helping you avoid data errors that can lead to costly penalties for unpaid Hungarian vignettes.
- Continuous monitoring of equipment and correct payment of the Hungarian vignette – CargoTrack continuously checks the tracking devices to ensure accurate real-time information.
- Notifications via SMS & e-mail for topping up your Hungarian vignette payment account – through close vehicle monitoring and prevention of fines that can reach hundreds of euros.
- Flexibility route changes – as long as you use CargoTrack equipment to pay road tolls in Hungary, you can choose and change any route without worrying about a possible fine.
The HU-GO Hungarian vignette payment process
The following steps are carried out to complete the Hungarian vignette payment process:
- A unique ID is generated for each GPS device to be used with HU-GO;
- An account is created on the HU-GO platform for Hungarian vignette payment;
- You top up your own virtual account with the funds needed to pay the tolls;
- Add your vehicles with complete information (number of axles, emission class, etc.)
Notes:
HU-GO places responsibility for correct payment on the customer, so you have both the HU-GO interface and the CargoTrack application available to spot any toll payment issues.
It is therefore very important to check that:
- The data entered in the HU-GO system is correct and up to date;
- The HU-GO alert function is enabled and your contact details are correct;
- Your HU-GO account holds enough funds to pay the road tolls for your planned routes;
- The GPS device is working properly;
- Drivers are not using GPS signal jammers;
Calculating the Hungarian Vignette Online Payment
The Hungarian road toll payment system applies to vehicles with a maximum authorized weight above 3.5 tons, and the toll is calculated based on the following:
- Vehicle category;
- Road category;
- Emission category;
Penalties for Unpaid Hungarian Vignettes
Within the HU-GO electronic road toll system, National Toll Payment Services supports enforcement through fixed checkpoints across the toll road network and through mobile data collection vehicles. Toll payment is checked continuously, and the system instantly detects whether the vehicle in question has the right to use the roads
Fines range from 24,000 HUF to 165,000 HUF (€70 – €470).
You can easily be fined for an unpaid Hungarian vignette if:
- You fail to pay the road toll before you start using the roads;
- The vehicle was declared in a lower toll or emission category than its actual one;
- At the time the roads are used, the on-board unit appears on the list of invalidated devices;
Drive through Hungary, Poland and Bulgaria with a single toll device, only with CargoTrack services
