In short: There is no vignette in Bosnia and Herzegovina: you pay a road toll calculated based on the kilometers traveled on the motorway and the vehicle class (Ia–IV). On the A1, a passenger car pays from 1.00 KM (0.50 €) on Međugorje – Ljubuški up to 7.00 KM (3.60 €) on Sarajevo North – Zenica North, and in Republika Srpska 3.50 KM on Banja Luka – Gradiška and 7.00 KM on Banja Luka – Doboj. Payment is made manually at the toll booths (cash or card) or automatically with the prepaid ACC TAG device (about 39 KM, with a 20% bonus on top-ups).
If you choose to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2026 or drive through it to reach Croatia, you need to understand how the Bosnia and Herzegovina vignette works and make sure you pay the applicable tolls.
Bosnia Road Tolls in 2026: What Has Changed
Rates on the A1 motorway are now set by the regulation adopted in 2024 (“Službene novine FBiH” no. 63/24), which also introduced a separate class for motorcycles (Ia), with a rate half that of passenger cars. The tolled network has expanded: in addition to the Sarajevo – Zenica section, tolls are now also charged on Sarajevo West – Bradina, on the southern Čapljina – Međugorje – Ljubuški section and on Svilaj – Odžak, at the Croatian border.
The new Zenica – Žepče section (Poprikuše – Nemila – Vranduk, 11 km, with the 3.6 km Bosna tunnel), opened at the end of 2025, remains free of charge until December 31, 2026, by decision of the Government of the Federation of BiH. In Republika Srpska, since June 2026, the electronic payment TAG can also be used on Serbian motorways through the joint Toll4All system – a real advantage for fleets that transit both countries.
An important detail when paying cash: the toll booths on the A1 also accept euros, but change is given in KM at a rate of 1 € = 1.80 KM, which is worse than the official fixed rate (1 € = 1.95583 KM). So it is more cost-effective to pay in KM or by card.
In this article, we will give you all the details you need to make sure you have all the necessary information before you hit the road.

Bosnia and Herzegovina vignette or Bosnia and Herzegovina road toll
Bosnia and Herzegovina does not require you to buy a vignette; instead, a road toll applies to the motorways you choose to drive on.
Of course, there are alternative routes, but if you choose to drive on the motorways of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is important to be informed about the applicable road tolls.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina motorway network
Bosnia and Herzegovina currently has more than 200 km of tolled motorway in operation: the A1 motorway on Corridor Vc, managed in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina by JP Autoceste FBiH, plus the motorways in Republika Srpska (Banja Luka – Gradiška and Banja Luka – Doboj), managed by JP “Autoputevi Republike Srpske”. The network is steadily expanding along Corridor Vc.
On motorway sections, a Bosnia and Herzegovina motorway toll is charged, calculated based on your vehicle category and the section you drive on.
There are currently six main motorway sections where a road toll is charged:
- Sarajevo North – Zenica North (A1, about 60 km);
- Sarajevo West – Tarčin – Bradina (A1, about 24 km);
- Čapljina/Počitelj – Međugorje – Ljubuški (A1, in the south, about 18 km);
- Svilaj – Odžak (A1, at the Croatian border, 8 km);
- Banja Luka – Gradiška (Republika Srpska, about 34 km);
- Banja Luka – Doboj (the “9. januar” motorway, Republika Srpska, about 72 km).
Further down in the article you will find the categories defined by the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
How can I pay the Bosnia and Herzegovina road toll
In Bosnia and Herzegovina there are two ways to pay the road toll, automatic and manual, and you can choose whichever suits the way you operate.
Automatic road toll payment in Bosnia and Herzegovina
For automatic payment on the A1, you need to buy an ACC TAG device (prepaid system) in advance from the points of sale at the toll stations and mount it on the windshield. The device costs about 39 KM (~20 €), and each time you top up your account you get a 20% bonus on the amount paid. Republika Srpska runs a separate electronic toll system (ENP/TAG), which since June 2026 can also be used on Serbian motorways through the joint Toll4All system.
With this device, you enter the motorway through the lanes marked with the ACC sign. The device mounted on the windshield is scanned automatically and the barrier lifts without you having to stop at the toll booth.

Manual road toll payment in Bosnia and Herzegovina
To pay manually, you must enter the motorway through the gates specially marked for this purpose. Your license plate number will be scanned automatically and you will receive a magnetic card.
You must keep the magnetic card and scan it when exiting the motorway. When exiting the motorway, select the same type of gate you used to enter. Then insert the magnetic card at the corresponding payment booth.
The amount paid is calculated based on the vehicle category and the number of kilometers traveled on the motorway section.

Vehicle category for tolling
On the A1 motorway in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, under current regulations, there are 5 vehicle classes (Ia, I, II, III and IV), which determine the road toll you pay for the section traveled. Motorcycles now have their own class (Ia), with a reduced rate.
To determine which category your vehicle falls into, see the table below with the categories set by Bosnia and Herzegovina.
| Class | Description |
| Ia | Motorcycles, tricycles and quadricycles (ATVs) |
| S | Vehicles with two axles and a height of no more than 1.3 m at the first axle, with up to 7 seats or a payload of up to 850 kg and a maximum authorized weight of no more than 3.5 t (passenger cars, light commercial vehicles) |
| II | Class I vehicles with a trailer, as well as van/kombi vehicles with two axles and a height of more than 1.3 m at the first axle or with more than 7 seats or a payload of more than 850 kg, with a maximum authorized weight of no more than 3.5 t |
| III | Vehicles with two or three axles, a height of more than 1.3 m at the first axle and a maximum authorized weight of more than 3.5 t; vehicles with more than 9 seats (trucks and buses with 2–3 axles) |
| IV | Vehicles with four or more axles and a maximum authorized weight of more than 3.5 t; vehicles with 2–3 axles over 3.5 t towing a trailer (articulated combinations) |
How much does the road toll cost (Bosnia and Herzegovina vignette)?
The Bosnia and Herzegovina road toll (Bosnia and Herzegovina vignette) is calculated when you exit the motorway, based on the kilometers you traveled and your vehicle category.
To that end, the table below shows the official JP Autoceste FBiH rates valid in 2026 for classes I – IV (1 € ≈ 1.96 KM):
| Rates on the A1 motorway (Federation of BiH) | ||||
| Motorway section | Class I | Class II | Class III | Class IV |
| Sarajevo North – Zenica North (about 60 km) | 7.00 KM (3.60 €) | 14.00 KM (7.20 €) | 21.00 KM (10.70 €) | 28.00 KM (14.30 €) |
| Sarajevo West – Tarčin (about 20 km) | 2.50 KM (1.30 €) | 5.00 KM (2.60 €) | 7.50 KM (3.80 €) | 10.00 KM (5.10 €) |
| Sarajevo West – Bradina (about 24 km) | 3.50 KM (1.80 €) | 7.00 KM (3.60 €) | 10.50 KM (5.40 €) | 14.00 KM (7.20 €) |
| Međugorje – Ljubuški (about 10 km) | 1.00 KM (0.50 €) | 2.00 KM (1.00 €) | 3.00 KM (1.50 €) | 4.00 KM (2.00 €) |
| Čapljina – Ljubuški (about 18 km) | 2.20 KM (1.10 €) | 4.50 KM (2.30 €) | 6.50 KM (3.30 €) | 9.00 KM (4.60 €) |

On the motorways in Republika Srpska (a separate operator – JP “Autoputevi Republike Srpske”), a passenger car pays 3.50 KM (≈1.80 €) on the Banja Luka – Gradiška route and 7.00 KM (≈3.60 €) on the Banja Luka – Doboj route. Vehicles taller than 1.3 m (trucks, buses) pay double: 7.00 KM (≈3.60 €) and 14.00 KM (≈7.20 €), respectively.
