Poland Vignette 2026 – Everything You Need to Know

Poland vignette: the road toll system and rates for trucks

In short: Poland has no classic vignette: cars and motorcycles (under 3.5 tons) pay only on the concession sections of the A1, A2 and A4 motorways — for example, 29.90 PLN on A1 Gdańsk–Toruń, 138 PLN on A2 Świecko–Konin and 36 PLN on A4 Katowice–Kraków — while the state-run sections A2 Konin–Stryków and A4 Wrocław–Sośnica have been free since July 1, 2023. Trucks over 3.5 tons and buses pay electronically through the e-TOLL system, on a network extended to about 5,869 km since February 1, 2026, at rates of 0.34–1.07 PLN/km depending on tonnage, road type and EURO class. Driving without paying the tolls is punishable by a fine of 500 PLN for cars and 1500 PLN for vehicles over 3.5 tons.

If you are about to travel to Poland, you should set off well informed so you can accurately calculate all the costs of your upcoming trip. To that end, here is everything you need to know about the Poland vignette system in 2026.

Road tolls in Poland in 2026: what has changed

The Polish toll system has gone through major changes in recent years, so it is worth knowing about them before you set off:

For companies that frequently travel through Poland, payment methods differ in price and administrative effort — see the alternatives for paying the vignette in Poland.

  • State-run sections became free for cars: since July 1, 2023, no toll is charged for vehicles under 3.5 tons and motorcycles on A2 Konin – Stryków and A4 Wrocław – Sośnica (sections managed by GDDKiA). Trucks still pay through e-TOLL on these segments.
  • A2 Świecko – Konin has become more expensive: since March 11, 2026, the rate on the Nowy Tomyśl – Konin concession section is 40 PLN per segment of about 50 km (up from 37 PLN), and driving the entire Świecko – Konin section costs 138 PLN for a car.
  • A4 Katowice – Kraków has become more expensive: since April 1, 2026, cars pay 18 PLN at each of the two toll barriers (Mysłowice and Balice), i.e., 36 PLN for the entire section, and motorcycles pay 9 PLN per barrier. The good news: the concession expires in March 2027, and once the state takes over, the section is set to become free for cars and motorcycles.
  • e-TOLL: expanded network and higher rates for trucks: since February 1, 2026, the toll road network for vehicles over 3.5 tons has been extended by about 645 km, reaching approximately 5,869 km, and per-kilometer rates have risen significantly.

Here are the e-TOLL per-kilometer rates, valid from February 1, 2026, by road category and EURO emission class:

Poland road tolls for vehicles under 3.5 tons

Vehicles under 3.5 tons do not require a Poland vignette. Instead, if you own such a vehicle, you will have to pay the Poland motorway toll on certain road segments.

These motorway tolls are paid at the payment points on the motorway, which we explain later in the article.

How to pay the Poland motorway toll

To pay the Poland motorway toll, the Polish authorities have implemented two systems: the closed system and the open system.

Closed motorway toll system

The closed payment system consists of two toll stations: one at the motorway entrance, where you are issued a ticket, and a second at the exit from the road segment, where you pay based on your vehicle category and the kilometers traveled.

Open motorway toll system

In the open system for paying the motorway toll in Poland, there is a single toll station at the start of the motorway segment, where you pay in advance.

In both cases, you can pay by:

  • cash – in euros, USD or PLN
  • bank card;
  • fuel card;
  • automatic payment apps — AmberGO on the A1, Autopay on the A2 (Nowy Tomyśl – Konin section) and on the A4 Katowice – Kraków — which let you pass through toll points without stopping at the barrier.

Poland toll device – eTOLL and other payment alternatives

For vehicles over 3.5 tons, there are 3 ways to pay the road toll in Poland.

  • Connecting through an on-board unit – eTOLL

To use the e-TOLL system in Poland, you need an on-board unit (OBU) approved by the Polish toll authorities. This is the recommended solution, as it involves the lowest costs for transport companies. A major advantage of this solution is that it does not require a mobile phone, so drivers can’t forget to charge it or accidentally turn it off, which helps avoid fines or errors.

This is the most practical solution for hauliers. If you want to find out how to get an eTOLL toll device quickly and easily, contact a CargoTrack specialist now.

  • Connecting through the mobile app

You can also use a free mobile app, available for both Android and iOS devices, to connect to the e-TOLL system and pay the road toll in Poland. However, this solution has some drawbacks. Using it requires a constant connection to the e-TOLL system, which drains the battery and mobile data. If the signal is lost, drivers risk being fined by the Polish toll authority for non-payment of the road toll in Poland.

  • Connecting through an accredited external location system

Another option is to connect vehicles to e-TOLL through an external location system (ELS) installed in them. To use this solution, you need to purchase and install such a device from a specialized third-party company, which usually charges a subscription fee for its services.

Here you’ll find complete information about the eTOLL system in Poland.
