In short: The Lithuania vignette is free for passenger cars but mandatory for commercial vehicles in categories N1–N3 and M2–M3, with rates starting at €7 per day and varying by EURO class and number of axles. 2026 is the last year of time-based vignettes: from July 1, 2026, only 1-day, 7-day, or 1-month vignettes are sold, and from January 1, 2027, Lithuania switches to the Via Toll system, with per-kilometer charging. The fine for driving without paying the road toll ranges from 700 to 1,000 euros.
If Lithuania is your next destination in 2026, you have a big advantage – the Lithuania vignette is free for passenger cars, so you don’t have to pay anything.
Road Tolls in Lithuania in 2026: What Has Changed
2026 is a transition year for road tolls in Lithuania. The time-based electronic vignette remains valid until December 31, 2026, but from July 1, 2026, annual vignettes are no longer sold – you can only buy 1-day, 7-day, or 1-month vignettes.
As of January 1, 2027, Lithuania switches to Via Toll, an electronic per-kilometer toll system: the toll is calculated based on the distance actually driven on toll roads, the vehicle’s weight, its emission class, and its fuel type. The system applies only to categories M2, M3, N1, N2, and N3 – passenger cars remain exempt. Payment will be made after registering in the app or in the self-service portal, and the technology is supplied by the Austrian company Kapsch TrafficCom.
All vignettes purchased in 2026 automatically expire on January 1, 2027. For the unused period of annual vignettes, the authorities will grant compensation – applications can be submitted from the beginning of 2027, and the procedure will be published on vialietuva.lt. Also note that electric and hydrogen vehicles in categories N1–N3 and M2–M3 get a 75% discount on the vignette price in 2026.
Under the new system, the fine for driving without paying the road toll remains substantial: between 700 and 1,000 euros. For fleets that frequently transit the Baltic states, GPS monitoring of the kilometers driven thus becomes a direct tool for controlling road toll costs.
However, if you are carrying out a transport job, keep in mind that you will need to buy an electronic vignette (e-vignette) in Lithuania, since commercial vehicles are NOT exempt from road tolls. But note: 2026 is the last year in which Lithuania uses time-based vignettes – from January 1, 2027, the Via Toll system takes effect, with per-kilometer charging.
All vehicles in categories N1–N3 (freight transport) and M2–M3 (passenger transport) are subject to the vignette in Lithuania, and in this article you’ll learn everything you need to know about the Lithuanian e-vignette and the switch to distance-based tolling.

Free Lithuania Vignette for Passenger Cars
If you choose to visit Lithuania as a tourist, you have a big advantage. You are not required to pay any kind of toll to drive on the country’s roads.
So you can drive confidently on Lithuania’s roads without the stress of paying road tolls. However, you do need to pay attention to traffic laws to avoid fines.
Paid Lithuania Vignette for Trucks
Lithuania requires the Lithuania vignette to be paid for heavy vehicles, including those in category N1 (category N vehicles with a maximum weight not exceeding 3.5 tons) and category M2 (category M vehicles with more than eight seats in addition to the driver’s seat and a maximum weight not exceeding 5 tons).
So if you are carrying freight or passengers, you will need to buy the Lithuania vignette, which we’ll tell you about below.
How Much Does the Lithuania Vignette Cost?
The cost of the Lithuania vignette depends on:
- the vehicle category (M2, M3, N1, N2, or N3);
- the number of axles (up to 3 axles, or 4 or more axles);
- the EURO emission class (from EURO 0 to EURO VI);
- the validity period chosen (1 day, 7 days, or 1 month).
Of course, there are also road sections where a vignette is not required. The vignette is mandatory only on toll roads of national importance (the main highways), and the official map of toll roads can be viewed at keliumokestis.lt. Enforcement is automatic, using license plate recognition cameras.
The current rates (in effect since January 1, 2024) differ depending on the EURO class and the number of axles. As a guide, for vehicles with up to 3 axles, vignette costs in Lithuania are:
| vehicle (up to 3 axles) | 1 day | 7 days | 1 month |
| M2 / N1 – EURO VI | 7 € | 17 € | 34 € |
| M2 / N1 – EURO 0 | 16 € | 38 € | 75 € |
| N2 – EURO VI | 13 € | 31 € | 62 € |
| N2 – EURO 0 | 29 € | 67 € | 137 € |
| N3 – EURO VI | 13 € | 41 € | 83 € |
| N3 – EURO 0 | 29 € | 91 € | 179 € |
| M3 – EURO VI | 13 € | 31 € | 62 € |
| M3 – EURO 0 | 29 € | 70 € | 139 € |
For vehicles with 4 or more axles, the rates are higher – for example, for an N3 EURO VI truck a 1-day vignette costs €23, while for older emission classes (EURO 0) it reaches €51 per day. Important: from July 1, 2026, annual vignettes are no longer sold, in preparation for the switch to the Via Toll per-kilometer system.
