Planning a vacation in Prague or just passing through the Czech Republic?

The Czech Republic vignette in 2026: what has changed

The Czech Republic indexes its vignette prices every year, and since January 1, 2026, the rates have gone up again: the annual vignette now costs 2,570 CZK (compared to 2,440 CZK in 2025), the 30-day vignette 480 CZK, the 10-day vignette 300 CZK and the 1-day vignette 230 CZK, according to the official edalnice.cz platform.

Electric vehicles and vehicles powered exclusively by hydrogen remain fully exempt, but for vehicles registered abroad, an exemption notification must be submitted to the authorities. Plug-in hybrids with emissions of up to 50 g CO2/km pay only 25% of the standard rate, and CNG or biomethane vehicles pay 50%.

For hauliers, the news of 2026 concerns Myto CZ tolls: rates for vehicles over 3.5 tons rose moderately on motorways (0.7 – 1.5%), but significantly on class I roads, where increases reach up to 41.8%. Check your routes before departure on mytocz.eu.

Are you a haulier unsure of the best way to pay road tolls in the Czech Republic?

Below you’ll find all the information you need, depending on your type of trip and your needs.

Before we answer all your questions about the Czech Republic vignette, note that on January 1, 2021, the country introduced an electronic vignette system for cars (vehicles not exceeding 3.5 tons), which makes buying one much easier.

The current electronic vignette system has successfully replaced the old system in which you had to place a sticker on your vehicle’s windshield, a system similar to the one in Bulgaria.

For our fellow hauliers (trucks and buses), road tolls in the Czech Republic are paid using the automatic electronic payment device called Myto Cz Box.

If you want to read more about this Myto Cz device, read the article to the end.

Where can I buy the Czech Republic vignette?

The Czech authorities offer people who want to obtain a vignette 3 methods, which apply only to cars:

Pay close attention to the lei – Czech koruna (CZK) exchange rate.

Even though the Czech Republic is part of the EU, it has not adopted the euro, so all your payments will be in Czech koruna.

Always check the exchange rate your bank applies at the time of purchase so you don’t get any surprises later. (There can be large exchange rate differences, meaning you could end up paying more for the Czech Republic vignette than it normally costs.)

For online payments of the Czech Republic vignette, make sure you have enabled the option for online card payments.

If you pay for the Czech Republic vignette by bank card, you receive the confirmation by email almost instantly and can safely set off.

However, if you choose a bank transfer to pay for the Czech Republic vignette, the confirmation may take up to 5 days.

Self-service points for the Czech Republic vignette at the border

Self-service kiosks are a combination of buying vignettes online and buying them at physical points of sale.

The benefits of these self-service kiosks are that they are located at every entry point into the Czech Republic, you can pay quickly by bank card, and the machine is available in several languages.

If you want to find the locations of these kiosks, follow this link.

How do you pay for the Czech Republic vignette at self-service kiosks?

  1. Select the language in which the information will be displayed.
  2. Select the vignette type you want  (1 year, 30 days, 10 days or 1 day)
  3. Enter the license plate number and the vehicle’s country of registration.

Payment exemptions – Czech Republic vignette

Unlike other European countries, the Czech Republic has chosen to “reward” users of ECO vehicles with an exemption from the vignette.

A list of all the types of vehicles / situations in which vehicles are exempt from the vignette can be found below:

  • Motorcycles;
  • Towed vehicles;
  • Electric cars;
  • Cars powered exclusively by hydrogen;
  • Vintage cars;
  • Cars transporting children with various health conditions;

If you meet any of these exemptions, you can apply by sending the Czech authorities a vignette exemption form by email to: epodatelna@edalnice.cz.

You can fill out the form here: fill out the form.

Czech Republic road tolls for trucks and buses…

Trucks and buses traveling on toll roads in the Czech Republic pay road tolls using an automatic payment device generically called Myto CZ, which is installed on board the vehicle.

Czech Republic road tolls are charged per kilometer and calculated based on the following criteria:

  • road category (motorways; class I roads)
  • vehicle category (vehicles in the electronic toll system except vehicles in categories M2 and M3; vehicles in categories M2 and M3)
  • vehicle emission classes (EURO 0 up to EURO IV; EEV; class; CNG-BIO class)
  • maximum permissible weight of a vehicle or vehicle combination (vehicle category: over 3.5 t – 7.5 t, vehicle category: 7.5 t – 12 t, vehicle category: over 12 t.
  • number of axles of a vehicle or vehicle combination (2 axles; 3 axles; 4 axles; 5 or more axles)
  • time of day (day rate – from 05:00 to 21:59; night rate – from 22:00 to 04:59).

You can make an estimate based on your vehicle and the distance traveled here.

In 2026, Czech Republic road toll rates range from approximately 2 to 6 CZK/km (about 0.08 – 0.23 euros/km), depending on road category, EURO emission class, CO2 emission class and number of axles. Since January 1, 2026, motorway rates have increased by 0.7 – 1.5%, and class I road rates by up to 41.8%.

How can I get the Myto CZ on-board unit (OBU)?

The MYTO CZ device is free and can be obtained against a deposit paid to the Czech road toll operator of approximately 2 468 CZK (100 euros) per OBU.

You can easily obtain it from the following list of distribution points: list of points of sale.

obu-mytocz-road-tolls-czech-republic
Czech Republic Vignette 2026

How is the Myto CZ on-board unit (OBU) installed?

The Myto CZ OBU must be installed on the inside of the windshield, in the lower area between the steering column and the center of the vehicle, so that it is not covered by the  wipers or other objects (for example, stickers) and does not restrict the driver’s field of vision while driving.

The electronic device must not be mounted in the area of storage compartments or moving parts, for example, in the area of the airbag covers.

The electronic device is mounted on the inside of the windshield using the suction cups attached to the detachable part of the Myto CZ device housing.

It is connected to the vehicle’s power supply via a cable plugged into the cigarette lighter socket or another socket with the same mechanical specification.

Instructions for connecting the electronic device to a fixed installation

(When connecting the electronic device for a fixed setup, do not remove the blanking plugs from the electronic device; use the free socket left after the power cable has been removed.)

In what currency can the Czech Republic vignette be paid?

Even though the Czech Republic is also part of the European Union, the vignette is paid in the national currency, namely the Czech koruna (CZK).

If you buy the vignette online or in person at bank terminals (POS) with a bank card, it’s good to know that you don’t need a card in koruna (CZK); you can just as well pay in lei, forints, euros, etc.

Pay close attention to the lei – CZK exchange rate. Always check with your bank what exchange rate applies at the time of purchase so you don’t get any surprises later.

Our recommendations for paying Czech Republic road tolls:

  • Be careful with in-person payments at card terminals (POS) – make sure your bank allows card payments abroad.
  • If you buy the vignette online, make sure you have enabled online card payments.

Do I also need a vignette for a trailer in the Czech Republic?

Trailers with a total weight of up to and including 3.5 tons, towed by a car, do not need their own vignette.

How much is the fine for not having a vignette in the Czech Republic?

The Czech Police and the Customs Administration of the Czech Republic carry out checks by scanning license plate numbers to see whether the vehicle has a valid vignette or is exempt.

Checks are carried out using patrol cars equipped with special license plate scanning cameras, inspections at rest areas / parking lots and through connection to control gantries.

If you failed to buy a vignette, you will be fined; the amount varies by vehicle type, as follows.

Czech Republic vignette fines for cars (vehicles up to 3.5 tons)

If you failed to buy a vignette, fines range from 20,000 CZK (~4,000 lei) to 100,000 CZK (~20,000 lei), as follows:

  • A driver on a toll road without a valid e-vignette (and not exempt) risks a fine of up to 20,000 CZK. (~4,000 lei)
  • If you submit a vignette exemption notification without being entitled to the exemption, the fine can reach up to 100,000 CZK. (~20,000 lei)
  • If a car is eligible for an exemption but the driver has not submitted the notification even though the law requires it, the fine can reach up to 5,000 CZK. (~1,000 lei)
  • The same fine may also apply to those who fail to report the end of their exemption entitlement within 10 working days.

For heavy vehicles (trucks, buses)

The most common incidents for which hauliers are fined in the Czech Republic are:

  • Using a vehicle not equipped with a MYTO CZ electronic device;
  • Using a vehicle without entering data into the electronic device, or entering the data incorrectly;
  • Using a toll road with a vehicle not registered with the electronic toll system operator;
  • Failing to comply with a police or customs officer’s order to check the operation of the electronic device and the payment of the toll;
  • Tampering with the electronic device illegally;

On official website does NOT clearly specify the amount you will be fined for any of the 5 incidents above, but you can expect the range of 20,000 – 100,000 CZK (4,000 – 20,000 lei) that also applies to cars.

I was caught without a Czech Republic vignette — what do I do?

You either pay the fine on the spot, if you’re “lucky” enough to be stopped in traffic by the enforcement authorities, or you will receive the fine by mail at your home address. Payment is made by following the instructions in the envelope.
