Slovakia Vignette 2025 – Everything You Need to Know…

Slovakia Vignette 2026

In Slovakia, as in other European countries (Moldova, Czech Republic, Bulgaria etc.), you have to pay for a vignette or a road toll to cross or visit the country – a kind of rovinieta (the Romanian road vignette).

Slovakia vignette in 2026: what has changed

The good news for 2026: Slovak e-vignette prices remain unchanged from 2025 – 8.10 euros for 1 day, 10.80 euros for 10 days, 17.10 euros for 30 days and 90 euros for 365 days, according to Národná diaľničná spoločnosť (eznamka.sk).

There is one useful change, though: you can now defer the start of the vignette’s validity by up to 60 days from the date of purchase (compared to only 13 days before), so you can pay for the vignette well ahead of a planned trip. In addition, the 2026 vignettes went on sale a month earlier than in previous years.

Also keep in mind that the annual vignette is a “365-day” vignette: it is valid for a full year from the day you choose, not just until January 31, as the old rule stated. For vehicles over 3.5 tons, tolls are still charged through the eMýto system (emyto.sk), which since July 1, 2025 also takes into account the vehicle’s CO2 emission class.

The rule does not apply across the board, because motorcycles without a sidecar do not need a vignette in Slovakia.

In fact, you don’t necessarily have to pay with other vehicles either. In practice, it depends entirely on where you drive.

Below, we explain how road tolls and vignettes work in Slovakia, so you are prepared for any situation!

How do I check whether I need a Slovakia vignette?

The vignette or road toll in Slovakia applies to routes that include certain sections of motorway or expressway.

There are some differences depending on the size of the vehicle, but what is certain is that drivers of small cars as well as of coaches and trucks in the cases mentioned must pay the toll.

To be even more precise, here are the expressways and motorways for which you need a vignette in Slovakia:

Where can I buy a Slovakia vignette in person?

You can find a vignette for Slovakia at gas stations, at vending machines at border crossings, and also in regional towns, at the points of sale selected here.

Finding a physical place to buy the vignette for Slovakia is not hard. Rather, you need to pay attention to it once you have it.

Note, however: Slovakia uses only the electronic vignette (eZnámka), linked to the vehicle’s registration number.

This means there is no longer a sticker to put on the windshield: even if you pay at a gas station or a point of sale, the vignette is registered electronically to the license plate number, and you only receive a payment confirmation.

Can I buy a Slovakia vignette online?

The “rovinieta” for Slovakia, so to speak, can just as easily be bought online for vehicles up to 3.5 tons, and the price is the same as in person. In fact, buying the Slovakia vignette online is even simpler.

To buy an online vignette or e-vignette for Slovakia, go to https://eznamka.sk/en/. The website is available in 6 languages (Slovak, English, German, Hungarian, Polish and Russian), which makes paying for the Slovakia vignette online easier.

The steps to get the vignette for Slovakia are as follows:

  • To pay for the Slovakia vignette online, go to the e-vignette payment section;
  • Select whether it is for one vehicle or several;
  • Choose the period for which you want the vignette in Slovakia;
  • Enter the date from which the Slovakia vignette should be valid (you have the option of automatic renewal for the 1-year vignette) and the registration number;
  • Enter the e-mail address where you will receive the vignette for Slovakia and pay by card or bank transfer (if you also check the mobile option, you will receive it there too);
  • You receive the confirmation by e-mail – a PDF with the Slovakia vignette that you can print – and possibly an SMS on your phone.

How much does a Slovakia vignette cost in 2026?

As you probably already expect, the price of the rovinieta/vignette for Slovakia varies according to its validity period.

However, we want to point out that it is only available for vehicles that do not exceed 3.5 tons.

Slovakia vignette for vehicles up to 3.5 tons

  • Slovakia vignette 1 day: 8.10 euros
  • Slovakia vignette 10 days: 10.80 euros
  • Slovakia vignette 30 days: 17.10 euros

Slovakia road tolls for vehicles over 3.5 tons

This is a bit more complicated. Or maybe not, if we compare it with the similar situation in Austria.

You need to head to the nearest gas station or border crossing and pay the deposit for an OBU (50 euros), a device you will install on board the vehicle.

It will calculate the road toll you have to pay in Slovakia for your vehicle. You can get an idea of the amount by running a simulation.

You also have two options for paying the road toll in Slovakia: in advance, based on an estimate of the route you will travel, or at the end, when you know the exact amount.

For the prepaid option, the minimum amount is 50 euros. If it turns out you spent less than expected, you will receive the remainder in cash if it is under 100 euros, and on your card if it exceeds that.

In principle, several factors are involved in calculating the road toll for Slovakia:

  • the vehicle’s category;
  • whether you travel on motorways, expressways, or class 1, 2 or 3 roads;
  • the distance traveled;
  • Number of axles;
  • the EURO emission class and, since July 1, 2025, the CO2 emission class as well.

Do you have another destination and are only passing through Slovakia? According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, you can buy a transit ticket, which is available on 18 road sections, for 18 hours.

This way, you avoid paying the OBU deposit and the advance road toll for Slovakia of at least 50 euros.

Tolls for vehicles over 3.5 tons are charged through the eMýto electronic system, which is administered separately from the vignette system. For up-to-date rates, go to emyto.sk.

In what currency can I pay for the Slovakia vignette?

The vignette for Slovakia is paid in euros.

We recommend using a euro card or carrying exchanged cash, because otherwise your bank will convert the required amount at its own exchange rate. In other words, it will cost you more.

Do I also need a Slovakia vignette for a trailer?

It depends. If the vehicle and trailer together do not exceed the 3.5-ton threshold, you do not have to pay for a vignette in Slovakia for the trailer.

However, when a combination of an M1/N1 category vehicle and an O1/O2 category trailer exceeds 3.5 tons together, you also need a separate vignette for the trailer, at the same price as the vehicle’s vignette.

How much is the fine for not having a Slovakia vignette?

A fine for not having a vignette in Slovakia ranges from 150 to 500 euros. In practice, the standard fine issued under the simplified procedure is 150 euros, and if you pay two-thirds of the amount within 15 days of receiving the decision, you actually pay only 100 euros.

As for vehicles over 3.5 tons that have neither an OBU device installed on board nor a transit ticket for the road toll in Slovakia, they risk a fine of between 1,655 and 2,655 euros.

Don’t play with fire!

I was caught without a Slovakia vignette – what do I do?

If you are caught without a vignette in Slovakia, you will simply have to pay the fine out of your own pocket.

Police officers do not take into account that the gas station you stopped at had run out of vignettes. You need to find a way to buy the vignette in Slovakia.
